La Brière

Listed since 1970, the Brière Regional Natural Park is home to one of the largest marshes in France, the Grande Bière. Behind the dikes formed by the alluvium of the Loire, an immense peat bog of 40,000 hectares has developed, revealing 7 islands at its heart. In this landscape nicknamed “Black Country” because of the peat, specific fauna and flora have flourished. Men find there the materials necessary for their traditional habitat.
